World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Shatters PC-Game Sales Record
Blizzard Entertainment announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the
third expansion for the critically acclaimed massively multiplayer
online role-playing game (MMORPG), sold through more than 3.3 million
copies as of its first 24 hours of release, making it the
fastest-selling PC game of all time.* This milestone eclipses the
previous record of more than 2.8 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in
November 2008 by Blizzard's second World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath
of the Lich King.
The Force is Now With Mac Players
Sony and LucasArts announced that Star Wars®: Clone Wars Adventures, a
free-to-play family-friendly online virtual world, is now available for
Macintosh® Platform users at www.CloneWarsAdventures.com. Clone Wars
Adventures is an action-packed browser-based virtual world where fans
can live out the thrills and excitement of Star Wars®: The Clone Wars
animated TV series on Cartoon Network.
SyFy Channel to Make Theatrical Movies
Syfy channel, part of NBC Universal, said Wednesday it will join with
sister company Universal Pictures to release one to two films a year
with budgets between $5 million and $25 million starting in 2012. The
joint venture will be called Syfy Films.
Syfy Cancels 'Stargate Universe'
Syfy has decided not to renew Stargate Universe for a third season. The
cable network will air the last 10 episodes of Season 2 of the
action-adventure series, the third in the Stargate franchise, in the
spring of next year. There has been at least one Stargate series,
including Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, on Syfy since 2002.
