MediaConnection Wrap Up - Week ending December 3, 2010
Rosario Dawson Wants To PLay "Sexy Vulcan" in Next Star Trek Film
Rosario Dawson might desperately want to land a role in the next Star
Trek movie, but she's going about it in a very backwards way. Despite
leading an online campaign to get in the movie, she hasn't brought it up
with the director/producer J.J. Abrams, who she ran into again on a
recent flight to L.A.
Marvel Announces Jane Austen's Emma
Marvel is reaching out to an unlikely source for it's new comic series:
Jane Austin. Emma Woodhouse, a young privileged woman living in
nineteenth century England, has delved into the world of match making!
Join New York Times best-selling writer Nancy Butler (Sense &
Sensibility) and rising star artist Janet K. Lee (Return of the Dapper
Men) this March as they bring to life one of Jane Austen's most regarded
stories like you've never seen before, Emma #1! Despite her best
intentions, Emma may think too much of her own matchmaking abilities but
it won't stop her from sticking her nose where it doesn't belong.
Johnny Depp To Revive "The Lone Ranger"
The team that reinvented "Pirates of the Caribbean," director Gore
Verbinski and actor Johnny Depp, is reportedly collaborating on turning
one of TV's iconic characters, "The Lone Ranger," into a big-screen
feature. Jerry Bruckheimer is behind the project, with Depp taking on
the role of the Lone Ranger's sidekick, Tonto. No word yet on who will
play the title character, a role made famous by Clayton Moore.
Kevin Williamson Developing 'Vampire' Companion
Kevin Williamson is in ultra-early stages of a Vampire Diaries companion
series for The CW described as "The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire
Slayer". Sources note there's no deal in place, and no script, and it's
not a spinoff, it's only "companion series" in that it could be paired
with Vampire Diaries as a supernatural programming block.
'All-Star Superman' Animated Feature Debuts February 22
All-Star Superman is the adaptation of the Grant Morrison-written, Frank
Quitely-drawn miniseries by the same name. The Blu-ray will put the focus
on Morrison will its 2 1/2 hours of extras.
Marvel Could Lose Jack Kirby's Creations
A New York federal judge has weighed in on an important case that could
be worth billions of dollars and impact the future of Iron Man, X-Men,
The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, and other iconic super-hero characters.
Judge Colleen McMahon rejected a bid by Marvel to throw out the Kirby
estate's main counterclaim. The judge decided it wasn't a "redundant"
claim, meaning she will soon have an opportunity to shake up Marvel's
universe, if she so decides, with a potentially devastating future
ruling.
