Arcana Conquers Comic Con
The San Diego Comic Con ended last week, but the convention is still feeling
the effects of Arcana's huge presence! Headlined by a huge 2 hour signing by
the Vampire Diaries' Malese Jow and creators Mark Poulton, Stephen Sistilli,
and Dexter Weeks for the release of Koni Konfidential, Arcana went Hollywood.
The booth had visits by Thomas Jane, the WWE's Bella Twins, and comics legend
Chris Claremont. In addition, five lucky fans won a chance to meet the Man
himself, Stan Lee, in honor of the release of Zedura Magazine, Arcana's new pop
culture magazine. The show also boasted a panel by Clockwork Girl creators Sean
O'Reilly and Kevin Hanna, and saw the debut of several new books from the
company.

Philospher Rex TPB Philospher Rex

Meet Dr. Ishmael Stone, Philospher, detective, monster-hunter, primes inter
pares of a shadowy network of supernatural guardians sworn to shelter the world
from the Infernal Orders. Stone's mission is aided by his daughter, half-ghost,
half-witch Amara Stone; a master of mystic weapons Wilbur Branch; the
mysterious monster-detector known as Blind Jack; and the smooth-talking
mentalist Martin Priest. Philospher Rex opens at a moment of crisis as the
old orders are fragmenting and the Philosphers divinding into rival camps.
Stone and his comrades on one side of the battle, the malignant and craven
Philip Delacroix on the other. Complicating matters: just when Stone and his
associates need them the most, their various abilities are inexplicably on the

Interview with Tyler Nicol

[4]Coin Operated Boy
This month, Arcana's Vice President of Operations, Mark Poulton sits down with
the newest member of the Arcana team, Tyler Nicol, Arcana's new Vice President
of Marketing! MP: First things first. Congratulations on the new position.
And secondly, welcome to the Arcana family. How did the job come out?

TN: I've known Sean O'Reilly since he started teaching middle school science
(where he taught me!). We've kept in touch over the years as I've worked for
animation, film, and graphic design. When this new chance opened up Sean deemed
me fit to fill the role of Vice President of Marketing, and I didn't hesitate
to take him up on it.
MP: Have you always been a fan of comics? If so, what are some of your
favorites?
TN: Comics were the cheap, easy thing to read growing up. All my allowance (a
whole five dollars a week back in the day) would go towards "Bin comics" those
old randomly sorted back-issues that I found at a swap meet we'd visit. I'd
come home happy with an arm full of anything, things ranged from Archie to
Frank Miller. Once I got a taste for them I found that I liked the indie comics
the best. My all time fave would have to be Scud The Disposable Assassin by Rob
Schrab... it's pure insanity topped with pop culture icing. I'm also a big fan
of Preacher and The Boys by Garth Ennis. Though out of our Arcana library I
keep re-reading 100 Girls by Adam Gallardo and Todd Demong because I REALLY
enjoy the fast paced flow of it.
MP: What are some of the duties you perform?
TN: Oh, wow... We may have to double up this newsletter if I type down
everything. A week for me can range quite literally every form of entertainment
media. I run a lot of side stuff for the owners (especially around San Diego
Comic Con time when things get insane) so in any day I may be a driver, grunt
worked, associate producer, actor, writer, social networker, or any other
myriad of jobs mixed together. When you work for a company like this you don't
try to limit what you can do, when a task needs to get done for you to do the
next thing you just do it. The other day the President of the company and
myself were dismantling office cubicles to ship across town then we took a
story pitch in the middle and kept working. It makes each day interesting.
MP: What's your favorite part of the job?
TN: The diversity of it. You're literally only limited by your imagination,
which is corny sounding but true. Since it's an entertainment media a lot of
those ideas that kick around in your head can start finding homes. You are
never without a task to do, so the problem solving part of my brain has had a
good work out lately. I think that's what I enjoy the most, constant mental
stimulation.
MP: What are some of the big things Arcana fans can look forward to?
TN: More comics, movies, animation, objects, prints, events, conventions,
facebooking, twittering, myspacing, ebay auctions, me showing up in person and
waving comics at them until they submit to the overwhelming local force that IS
Arcana. Everything we do is big, otherwise we can't muster the massive energy
needed to bring it out.
