Our resident professor over at eXpertcomics.com has wrangled up his reviews of some of the #1 issues NOT in the DC relaunch from this year. He has handed out his report card grades on the Infinite, The Vault and Cloak and Dagger:Spider island #1.

"After reading this comic featuring the long-awaited re-launch of my beloved Cloak & Dagger characters, it easily became the pet book of this batch (apologies to The Red Wing). When it was first announced I knew given its two co-stars that this book would be a must-read. However, I did have my reservations, if only because of its ties into a major storyline event of Spider-Man, the A-list character that helped usher their debut back in 1982 (see Spectacular Spider-Man #64). I was pleasantly surprised to find that it truly is just a simple Cloak and Dagger – or more specifically, Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen story with the Spider-Island business set as a distant backdrop. There are cameos by certain Avengers, perhaps obligatorily. Curiously, Spider-Man himself is absent, although there are plenty of Spidey costume-wearers running around. Writer Nick Spencer uses a double-narrative device to great effect as it deftly illustrates the dichotomy of the two characters, whose diametrical oppositions to each other are many: Tyrone is serious about their responsibility to help others with their special powers, is considered dark and brooding, is needy emotionally and physically (Dagger's light powers help abate his consuming void of darkness), and he is wholly committed to her as more than just a friend and ex-boyfriend. In contrast, Tandy is not as passionate about super heroics (specifically as just a duo), she's typically considered rather upbeat and spunky, less interested in a non-platonic relationship these days, and generally independent of Tyrone and his obsession with their destiny."
As you can see the Professor's unique perspective makes his reviews a must read.
