Stuart Beattie to Write and Direct 'I, Frankenstein'
Stuart Beattie has come aboard the Lakeshore Entertainment project I,
Frankenstein as writer and director. The filmmakers are looking to a
fall shoot. A Darkstorm Studios graphic novel created by Kevin Grevioux,
I, Frankenstein pictures a modern-day world where the classic literary
monster stands between humans and a host of other supernatural creatures
looking to rise up and take over. Grevioux co-created the successful
werewolves-vs.-vampires series Underworld, also produced by Lakeshore.
'Yu-Gi-Oh!' Creator Terminates U.S. Deal
4Kids Entertainment has made quite a business out of taking Japanese
anime programming like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! and dubbing it into English
for the pleasure of U.S. children. But now, the Japanese animation
studio that first created the anime hits is attacking, claiming that
4Kids owes it millions of dollars for making secret agreements with TV
networks and home video distributors as well as making improper royalty
deductions, including for the cost of the actual dubbing. As the result
of alleged contractual breaches, the Japanese companies behind the show
reveal they have just terminated their licensing agreements with 4Kids.
They now want past money owed too.
Ridley Scott Developing Sci-Fi Series for Cinemax
As part of a plan to make over Cinemax into a guy-focused action
channel, HBO has tapped "Blade Runner" makers Ridley Scott and Simon
Mirren to create a new sci-fi series for the channel. The new series is
called "The Sector" and is about the chief of a paramilitary unit who
hunts down dangerous, genetically enhanced humans. "The Sector" is the
third series HBO has bought to revamp Cinemax during the last two
months, following "The Transporter" and "Strike Back."
