Netflix Breaks New Ground
Netflix and Relativity Media announced a long term agreement through
which major theatrically released films owned by Relativity will be
licensed directly and exclusively to Netflix for streaming to its
subscribers during the "pay TV window."
The deal marks a continued shift in the distribution of major motion
pictures. Under the agreement, an increasing amount of popular
contemporary movies previously encumbered by pay TV agreements with
premium channels such as HBO, Showtime and Starz will become available
to be streamed from Netflix months after their release on DVD.
David Strathairn to Headline Syfy Drama Pilot
Oscar-nominated actor David Strathairn will headline "Alphas," a new
Syfy drama pilot. "Alphas" is the story of regular people who possess
remarkable mental skills and decide to use their talents to become crime
fighters. Strathairn will play Dr. Leigh Rosen, the leader of the
renegade group.
Amy Madigan Tapped for 'Fringe'
Fox has cast Oscar-nominated Amy Madigan to play Olivia's mother on
"Fringe." Madigan will appear in at least four episodes, including the
show's season premiere.
Being Human Gets Lost Star
Mark Pellegrino has been tapped for the Syfy remake of the BBC show,
"Being Human." Pellegrino, who played Jacob on "Lost" and Lucifer on
"Supernatural, will play a mentor to the vampire character on "Being
Human." The series focuses on a vampire, werewolf and ghost who make
mismatched roommates.
